Life Goes On

Oh well, I'm terribly upset right now. However, I'm not at all disappointed though becos I know we did our best tonite. I said before that if Singapore tried their best, then it doesn't matter even if we lose to Vietnam. Lose we did, but we should have had it won.

This is football, u can dominate for 99% of the game but that 1% slip in concentration costs us. At least we fared a zillion times better than that match in Hanoi. What I like about this game is the way the Vietnamese celebrated after scoring. This shows their respect for us, unlike when we played Japan...when Takahara scored his goal and didn't bother celebrating. I can still remember that moment *pissed*

I think Sarsi Kumar must be secretly feeling overjoyed that his Shoulder of God goal still remains as the only goal to ever beaten Vietnam in 10 years lol. Kidding la hehez. Well I hope Vietnam go all the way and beat Thailand in the finals.

Singapore Hwaiting!

Fear The Worst

I'm half scared to death over the Lions tomorrow. If only Khairul and Fazrul are around, then we can make it happen. Suddenly we're the underdogs going into this match, with Vietnam the favourites to advance.

To be honest, when Raddy announced the starting lineups for this tournament, I was already 1/2 sian liao. Aiyoo, with Duric being out, now Wilkinson is also unfit. What to do? Raddy said that he will just focus on the players available but its going to be tough tomorrow.

Of cos, if we were to get kicked out, we all know its becos our team is half-baked and certainly our weakest team lineup in many many years (since 2002). The only time our team is weaker than this is back when we lost 4-0 to Malaysia.

But that was becos we have ppl like Razif, Zulkanaen, Rafi and other elderly players lol. No offense to them but they're past their prime and Jan Poulsen did not have a youth system, so he kept recycling the same old players. What a joke.

But the other countries won't know that our team is half-cropped. They will think we fielded our best team and still get thrown out. Aaargh! The Thais must be wondering what happened to that little player who scored the winner in 2007? Cos if we fielded our best team, then we will most certainly win it.

Speaking of Thailand, that Datsakorn Thonglao is what Singaporeans would refer to as "guai lan". Did u see the way he taunt Syamsul Bachri? Then when Samsul nudged him, he just fell to the ground like a little princess. But when the ref saw that nothing serious happened, he magically got up. Datsakorn the Magician!

Teerathep Winothai is also another one, always thinks he is very handsome. Its that silly grin lor. I don't find him good looking, in fact I find Suchao Nutnam cuter than Leesaw! Its a pity my Suchao will be out for the first leg of the finals. Yes yes we get it, he was an ex muai thai champion, no need for Paul or Dez to keep repeating that.

And that Steve Darby will be the spy for Thailand, considering he knows Lionel Lewis, Indra and other Home Utd players under his reigh very very well. I think when Thailand got a penalty, Steve will know which direction Lionel to dive towards.

Keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow! I won't be there, but I pray to God Singapore makes it.

Creative ZEN X-Fi

What an early Christmas! Look at what I ended up with today? *beamz* I most certainly did not buy this for myself, cos that would be so...well that would be kinda cool hahaz. Nevertheless, the gifts are pouring in from everywhere. Will be starting my training regime starting next year.

Ya its part of my 2009 resolutions, that is to get my big fat butt off the couch and start running! My target is the Sundown marathon in May, although it would be nice to make it to the Safari Run in Feb. Hallelujah!

Les Misérables

Should I embark on this?

Oh Kenapa!

Actually its not that Singapore got lucky last nite. It's really becos Singapore cheated. Yup, Singapore played with 12 players while Vietnam only had 11. Singapore had an extra player on their side, and that player's name is God. The fact that the first Vietnam shot at goal flew off the post means God is working overtime here.

How else could you explain how that ball manage to stay out? It totally defies the law of physics. The ball hit the inner rim of the post, and it should by logic have gone in. But it didn't, which makes me draw the conclusion that it was indeed divine intervention.

The headlines today is so kind to Singapore. "Lucky Lions" indeed. CNY haven't come already feeling lucky liao lol. I've seen school teams play better than what Singapore played last nite, if they were playing at all. It seems they're just strolling around kicking the ball in random directions.

Sometimes it makes me wonder if Raddy did this on purpose so as to instill a sense of complacency in Vietnam for the return leg? It is probably wishful thinking to think that way. Haiz. I'm going crazy liao. Abit ding dong here and there.

Vietnam vs Kittens

I'm shivering with disgust as our national team crumbled like little pussy cats. We're not the Lions tonite, we're just little purring kittens. The cutest little mewing kitten tonite has to be Dan Bennett. Could somebody pls tell me what on earth was he doing on the pitch?

Mark Richmond was chipping away about how Singapore lost Khairul, Fazrul, Duric, Hariss, Qiu Li whatever to injuries, and how much of goals they scored blah blah blah. Ya well Alam Shah, Indra and Agu (our entire frontline) scored more than a hundred goals in the S-League EACH. Did u read what Indra said in the papers today? Big mouth only. Quack quack quack. Omg I think I'm going to puke.

I promised myself before the match that if Singapore can get a result tonite, then I will go support them this Sunday at Kallang (yes its been confirmed, the Old Lady has risen from the dead yet again!). In fact I even thought of going down to FAS office this afternoon to get the tickets! How lucky was I.

There is no way I'm going all the way to Kallang to support this sort of team. I know we should support our national team through thick and thin, but if they had tried hard enough and play properly then I would still go support them even if they had lost to Vietnam. But not with this sort of performance. Its almost a slap to the face of Singaporean fans. Its so gross.

I'm ok with the 0-0 draw in Hanoi, but its the way Singapore achieved that draw which irks me. Yes, "achieved" is right, cos the draw is a great achievement considering the way they play. I'm almost embarassed by the Lions display tonite.

Midway through I actually subconciously supported the Vietnamese to beat Singapore cos I really want the Lions to go down tonite as a lesson to them. And no Raddy, dun get too angry about that disallowed goal, cos Alam Shah was indeed offside. He was lightyears offside. One could spot that offside all the way from Serbia, so I dunno what Raddy was arguing about there.

Its all deja vu all over again.

All About Pee

Just becos I update this blog everyday doesn't mean I have to continue updating it every single day for the rest of my life. Sometimes when there is nothing to blog, or nothing eventful happened, then there is nothing to blog about, which explains why I hadn't blogged for the past few days.

I needed to kill some time this afternoon before the big Vietnam vs Singapore match tonite. So I scurried down to the theatres to catch "All About Women", which is one rather ok movie and an afternoon well-spent. The good thing about watching a weekday afternoon show in a suburban mall is that the whole entire theatre was practically empty.

As much as I recall, there was only an ah pek sitting behind me, an auntie in front of me and another lady sitting across from me. So its just the four of us occupying the whole place. Cool huh? Hardly ever I watch a movie alone, but then again so were everyone else. Everyone just wants to kill some time.

I thought my bladder was about to burst into smithereens. Don't you just hate it when the movie just started and you feel the need to pee? The movie started for me and I didn't want to miss any parts, so I controlled until the end of the movie, which was pure torture. Initially I thought the indie concert scene was the last part, then came the chapel scene. Aaargh. I thought that was the last part, then came the boxing scene. I almost concuss.

BIg match tonite. Watch out for it!

Československo

I found my old stamp album at long last. I thought I lost those precious stamps forever. I remember cultivating the habit of collecting stamps when I was very very young. It was quite a few years back obviously. I'm not sure how much these stamps are worth now, but I'll be sure to hang on to them tightly for now.

They're so old, I fear that if I touch them, they might break or turn into dust ahahaz. Some of them comes from ulu ulu countries like Grenada or Laos or Nicaragua, but my favourite ones are the stamps from the former Czechoslovakia. Did I spell that correctly?

It was not just the intrigueing designs which sparked my interest, but the fact that the country of Czechoslovakia no longer exists really made me feel lucky to own a part of Czech history lol. Ok, maybe I exaggerated abit. But omg la, some of the stamps dates all the way back to 1982 and even earlier I think.

I got these stamps from my Dad and also some old bookstore which used to sell them for like 50 cents a pack. They're all from the 80s becos I don't remember any stamps in there which was issued in the 90s.

The Stage Is Set

Its now confirmed. Singapore will face Vietnam in the semi-finals. Oh what a sweet dream come true. After watching Malaysia and Vietnam play, I was praying hard for Vietnam to go through, becos Malaysia is really the better side and a more difficult opponent for Singapore.

The reason why Malaysia failed to qualify is becos...well I don't want to comment on the way their keeper Helmy let in that last Vietnam goal, all I can say is that its totally unnecessary. Vietnam is definitely the easier of the two. But of cos, we can't underestimate them.

Nonetheless, be prepared for some Vietnamese eye-candy in the form of Le Cong Vinh (Song Lam dunno what An club) and especially Phan Thanh Binh (Dong Tam Long An)!

Mark these dates on your calendar if you're a ASEAN football fan:

  • 17 December 2008: Vietnam vs Singapore (Hanoi)
  • 21 December 2008: Singapore vs Vietnam (Singapore)

The venue for the Singapore leg is not confirmed yet I think. Let's hope its not the National friggin Stadium again! Ouch. That would be a slap in everyone's faces. I am guessing its either the Jalan Besar Stadium or Jurong East Stadium.

I hope they play in Jalan Besar becos the artificial pitch there is something very alien to the Vietnamese, and I can't see any way they can play their best on such a ground hahaz. But if we're that good, then we should not resort to such tactics.

While I don't care about the semi-final venue in Singapore, I do sincerely hope that they will finally get the floating stadium ready by the time the final comes. I know I'm jumping the gun a little here and overlooking Vietnam, but we can't help but to think that it would take slightly more than a miracle for Vietnam to progress past Singapore.

Be that as it may, holding the final in front of a capacity crowd of 6,000 at Jalan Besar, or worse, a 2,800 sell-out crowd in Jurong East is quite malu lor. I'm not even sure how to get tickets if they really host the final in those places.

At least the floating platform can hold 20,000+ to 30,000 fans, and the novelty of the floating stadium would probably cover up the relatively small and embarassing seating capacity anyway.

The Peranakan Trail : Joo Chiat & Koon Seng Road

You will never be fully immersed in the Peranakan culture in Singapore without a visit to Joo Chiat. Yes, the Jerkyll and Hyde of Singapore.

Daytime its a bustling little town with lots of good food and beautiful pre-war architecture. Its a heritage lover's dream come true. But when night falls, the good food is still there, and with it comes some other stuff which I won't mention la hahaz.

Anyway, the cluster of Peranakan houses are centred in and around Koon Seng Road. Its within walking distance from the Joo Chiat CC and all the yummy Katong laksa stalls. So this week's Peranakan Trail we shall focus on the Peranakan architecture of Joo Chiat.

The photoshoot is based mainly along Koon Seng Road, with some of them taken outside of Koon Seng (ie. Tembeling Road) but still within the district of Joo Chiat.

The Peranakan section of Joo Chiat is just one of the many facets of the district, but becos the focus for my photoshoot is Peranakan, therefore I shall sort of "ignore" the other parts of Joo Chiat for now.

There are so many sides of the beautiful historic district, so rest assure that I'll be back for the other parts of Joo Chiat and Katong later!

While some houses have been refurnished and renovated, its obvious that others are still left intact after all these years. Anyway, if you wish to see more of this photoshoot, just pop over to my Flickr Album for more!

Laksa Lunch @ Katong

It might be a big mistake to have laksa amidst the scorching hot afternoon sun. But then again, we're in Katong. When in Katong, do what the Katong ppl do - that is to enjoy an authentic bowl of Katong Laksa! Its a short lunch break before the Peranakan photoshoot in the Joo Chiat area.

King Of Group A

I'm shivering with pride as Singapore puts two past Indonesia to top the group! Yay! *beamz* I was just wondering what made the Indonesians think they could beat us? I mean, no disrespect for Indonesians but I don't recall the last time Indonesia ever beat Singapore leh. When huh?

Just before the 2004 Tiger Cup final, I remember a silly comment by then S-League referee Dave Roberts on ESPN, saying that Indonesia is too strong for Singapore. Then Aide Iskandar hit back by saying it's a farce to think Indonesia is too strong for Sg hahahaz. We went on to beat Indo 5-2 over two legs.

At first when I saw the name Mohamed Ilham, I thought Aiyo die ah, they recalled Ilham Jaya Kesuma? But it turns out its just another guy called Ilham. So heng so heng. That guy was quite scary. When he rush towards the opponent, he really bulldoze one lol.

I think they placed too much emphasis on Budi Sudarsono and Bambang Pamungkas liao. It should be a team effort, not a two-person show. Budi was really good in the game, but Bambang was invisible.

The thing about Sg is that once we score one goal, we keep defending and inviting Indo to attack. Really scary lor. We're giving Indo ten or twenty chances to attack and many times they should have scored. I don't know why we can't just continue attacking? Kinda stupid.

We really need to look for a good right winger. Ridhuan is very fast, so fast until the Indo fans also gasp when no Indo player could catch up with him. Problem is that he can only run, but no end product. Quite sian lor.

Sharil Ishak used to be the first choice right winger, but he lost his form recently thats why he got dropped to the bench. There's Khairul Amri, who wasn't playing. But I think he plays on the left? I not sure also.

Anyway really congratz to Sg for making it through to the semis and possibly facing Vietnam. I'll be marking my calendar for the Singapore leg. 21st Dec I think. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I Heart FIFA Games

I'm actually pretty good in FIFA games. Thats something not many people knows. I've been playing FIFA since 1995, though my friend from sec school have the Super Famicom 1994 version, which I could have bought if it wasn't for the fact that I don't own a Famicom. I know got a Sega version but I missed that as well. Oh well, let's start from 1995 hahaz.

Obviously different packaging in 13 years. I can't believe it has been 13 years since my first FIFA. Really kuai kuai long ti long. Well technically it's 14 years, cos the latest FIFA for the Xbox 360 is titled FIFA 09, but as of now it's still 2008, so...13 years it is.

The back covers of both games. Ok, here is the funny part. When they say "Sound The Air Raid Sirens", they're not kidding! There really were air raid sirens in the game. I remember that after you scored a goal, you can press button C or something and the sirens will start screaming.

I thought that was quite WTF. Since when were there air raid sirens during a football match? lol. So funny! And you can actually punch the opposing players until they become crippled wahahaz.

If memory serves me correctly, not say I want to hao lian, but I think I own every FIFA game there is since 1995, EXCEPT 97, 98 and 06. I even own FIFA 64! Of cos, I can't be digging them all out to take photos. I think the reason why I didn't get 06 is becos Xbox 360 just came out and the 06 version stinks of poo.

Boo Hoo Not Again

Omg this is the second nite in a row in which my sleep was interrupted. I feel like a zombie who just stepped on kitty litter. My eyebags are round and full, coloured with luscious natural black eyeshadow (its the eye circles get it?).

Nevermind that. Bad joke. Sleepy-headed me don't exactly have a sense of humour left in me today. What made it worse is that the weather is so friggin cold! I know you're probably asking "If you find Sg weather so cold, how can you stand the weather in cold countries?".

Well Einstein, that's becos in Singapore we wear only a t-shirt and shorts to sleep, whereas in cold climate countries like Iceland or Antartica, we put on layers upon layers upon a thousand layers of winter clothings, thats why we can sleep peacefully in the winter! *slaps forehead*

In any event, bring out my FLU RECOVERY RESCUE KIT!

Ono Lisa is such a calefare in there. A good listen nontheless haha.

Selamat Hari Raya Haji

Selamat Hari Raya Haji to one and all! What a storm last nite. I thought a hurricane flew past us or something. My windows were rattling from the winds and heavy pouring rain throughout the nite, until I can't even sleep well. Barely moments after I dozed off, I woke up again to the noise of the thunder, or the fear of my windows shattering from the force of the winds. It was quite scary really.

Since my bedroom window faces my legs, the rain just gave me very clean feet for the nite lol. Yes I did wake up and close the windows after getting my feet washed. Its common sense haha.

This is really cute. I bought this notebook and pen (its pink!) specially for jotting down notes for church service. Alas, the notebook still remains empty cos I didn't manage to attend church for the past couple of weeks. Sad case. However, I hope for a revival this Sunday. Will try my very best to go for church service this week! So Lord please help me out here.

The Real Farce

Ok I was wrong. The Cambodia match wasn't a farce, rather this one is the real farce lol. I was also wrong about Agu. He isn't rusty and he isn't slow or scared or anything. He has proven to be quite spectecular today. Hope he keeps this up. Kudos to Agu!

I admit I was quite biased against Agu after all that he has done in the past few years - you know the Persija saga and all that. But he has shown today that he has put every bit of that fiasco behind him and he's back! Yay yay!

The Myanmar team has a few familiar faces, like eg. Aung Aung Oo *droolz*, Yan Paing, Soe Myat Min and all that. Actually I think Myanmar performed very well today, but they just let their confidence drop abit after our Alam Shah scored the 1st minute goal.

They looked hungrier than Singapore to win the match becos their country isn't doing very well at the moment, and any victory in this competition, especially against Singapore will bring abit of smiles across Myanmar. So in a way I sort of feel sorry for them.

I have a confession to make here. I admit that I had quite a serious crush on their keeper Aung Aung Oo since 2004 lol. Don't laugh lor, seriously look at him. He's really quite good looking and very cute. When we first saw him in 2004, he was just a young scrawny little boy.

I thought "Eh, how come Myanmar player got so cute one?" hahaz. Now 4 years later he looked to have grown up quite abit. His body got bigger and fitter and he spots a goatee. If his football career didn't work out, perhaps he can do modelling *beamz*

Well the fact he has developed the guts to attack the referee sort of gives him this bad boy image, which we don't mind! Nan ren bu huai, nu ren bu ai lol. Ok la, enough of him. I thought Yan Paing (pronounced Yanping hehez) did quite well today. I still prefer him with this old hairstyle, this new one makes him look a little silly. Nonetheless he played very well.

Soe Myat Min on the other hand was playing like poo today. He didn't deserve to be on the pitch. He didn't help his team and he was running around dunno what he was doing. Its sad to see him like this, cos he was quite good in 2004.

I was at that 2004 match. The fans risked the thunderstorm to watch Singapore vs Myanmar. Quite similar to this one leh. Is it a coincidence? Both matches are played in muddy pitch and the rain was still falling. Both matches saw a Myanmar keeper sent off for assault.

Both matches Singapore looked to be struggling. Only difference is that no water bottles were thrown this time, instead we got a walkout. Why must it happen to Sg huh? So suay leh.

I remember that time the Sg fans were fighting with the Myanmar fans and after the match a Myanmar fan was stabbed outside National Stadium, and the riot police or something was called.

During the match Myanmar fans can jump 2 storeys down from the stands and fight hand to hand with our police! Then Sg fans can also throw rubbish bins, umbrellas and other stuff at Myanmar fans, who also did the same. It was quite stupid but scary to watch.

Back to 2008. I somehow wished that Singapore hadn't scored that 3rd goal. Haiz. So silly. The first two goals were pretty, but the third one is pretty cheap. Its perfectly legal but very cheap. The cheapness was compounded many times over when Singapore players celebrated the goal.

I wish we had just won 2-1 and leave with pride, instead of scoring such a goal and cheapening ourselves. What will the Indonesians think of us now? That we had to resort to such goals in order to achieve a victory?

Next match against Indo. The fact that the Indonesians booed us and wished Singapore to lose every match really goes to show how much they value us as opponents.

Agu is expected to receive the loudest of boos next Tuesday after what he did the other time to the Indonesian League. But we should be able to pull through la, hopefully. But congratz to Singapore for making it to the semi-finals!

Sakae Sushi Home Delivery

Aiyo kuai kuai long ti tong! I missed church (again) today. Feeling quite bad about missing church time and time again. I could easily get away by saying I overslept or busy with some stuff, but truth is I purposely did not set the alarm to wake me up earlier for church. Why did I do that? Isn't that a form of self-sabotage?

Well, after a late Saturday nite, I know there is no way possible for me to wake up early for anything the following day. I tried, it didn't work. Even if the alarm blared non-stop, I would still carry on sleeping. It's a habit I need to change, and fast.

I just love ordering Sakae Sushi. Its a vastly different home delivery experience than the usual Pizza Hut, KFC or McDonalds we normally instinctively order. I would much rather eat something else, but when you're at home too lazy to go out and too lazy to cook, the next best thing is to order home delivery. Either that or cook instant noodles (yucks).

Timeline @ Black Box

First of all, I'm not exactly a big fan of contemporary dance, though I would appreciate a good dance performance every now and then. Went to watch "Timeline" tonite at the Black Box. This is the first time I ever been to the Black Box to watch any sort of performance.

When they name the place Black Box, they're not kidding lol. It really is a black box, abeit a really big one. For the benefit of the arts-venue-impaired readers of this blog, the Black Box is located on the 5th level of the National Library. Yes, the big giant library next to Bugis Junction.

Timeline is "a movement based contemporary dance piece" which asserts that its not how much time you have which matters, rather its how you respond to it. I feel that the Choreographer Melissa Quek outdid herself this time, because this is truly a beautiful and powerful piece of dance performance which is both meaningful and abstract in nature.

What Melissa described in the post-show dialogue is that time is so intangible. Everyone agrees? Time is very intangible in nature, and the intention of this dance piece is to create a visual representation of time through body movement.

Sorry, no dance photos here. Can't take photos in there, mainly because its not ethical to be snapping away during a dance performance. And also its pointless, because a dance cannot be replicated, as what Melissa explained.

A body movement dance piece captured on still photography is worth as much as your Lehman Brothers investments. Anyway, two very interesting points were brought up by members of the audience at the post-show dialogue.

Is it a coincidence that all the dancers were girls?
The dance piece was performed by Jessica Christina, Hazel Tng, Katherine Chen and Melissa herself. Would Melissa have used a guy in this dance? That question drew sniggers from the crowd. At first Melissa said "Yes", she would have used a guy in this dance if guy dancers are so easily found lol. But then again maybe not.

She explained that some of the movements, for example the doll movements during Jessica's solo, were quite gender-specific, therefore a guy will not be so suitable. I personally feel that (though I didn't voice out) the concept of time affects women more so than men, in that we tend to take Time more seriously. I don't know how to pen that down in words, its just a very feminine thing lol.

Why did Melissa choose such a young team of dancers?
Its a very good question. She could have choreographed an older team of dancers if she wishes to, but what would be the point of that? The purpose of youth in this dance piece clearly portrays the youth impetuousity of the value and concept of time. Young people naturally do not understand exactly how it is like to age.

Older people of course do, but that would defeat the purpose. What Melissa intended is to present a cliche view of the process of aging (V. Biological Clock). Young people tend to have very predetermined thoughts of aging, and even going as far as surgery and medical procedures to halt the process of aging. This is clearly expressed in Jessica's wonderful solo.

Some parts I found very funny. During Jessica's solo, she was rubbing her arms and also the doll-face segment...it was hilarious. However only a couple of people giggled away as quietly as they can. I giggled as well. It was funny! If its funny, the natural thing to do is to laugh.

Some people are trying to control their laughter, fearing it would be rude to even giggle during the performance. Seriously, if you want to laugh, just laugh. Melissa in the post-show dialogue admitted that some parts were meant as humour. She was wondering why people didn't laugh hahaz.

I'm more of a ballet person, and Melissa said it best. This presentation was meant for ballet lovers, because ballet consists of complicated dance steps which is visually stimulating. That is why I found this dance piece really stimulating. Its not ballet, but it contains very visually enhanced movements. Its beautiful.

Singaporean Farce

Don't think girls don't watch soccer hor. I for one do hehez. Singapore just beat Cambodia 5-0 today at the opening match of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008, which is no cause for celebrations. Did you see Raddy shaking his head after Agu poked home the first goal?

It was a horrible looking goal, even more so with Agu's celebrations. Maybe he is too old to to do those acrobatic flips anymore. I still remember him flipping around in 2004, but I think the coach feared he will land on his head or something, that's why he stopped.

The match bordered on ridiculousity, with Singapore struggling to make ends meet in the first half. If Agu hadn't poke in that silly goal, then I think we will be embarassed and disgraced. I know later Indra scored a pretty goal but Indra and Alam Shah are subsitutes. If by bringing them in Singapore can score 4 goals, why don't the coach bring them in at the start? We would have scored 10 goals I think. Haiz, Raddy must be muddle headed liao.

The starting lineup looks questionable. I don't want Lionel in there. I know he's cute, but for the good of the team, Hassan Sunny should take over. Hassan is just as cute hahaz. But then the Cambodian keeper also quite shuai, omg look at the jawbone! lol.

Anyway, I know Cambodia is playing a 10-0-0 formation, but what we need are fast and fearless strikers like Alam Shah. Not slow Duric or rusty Agu. They're good, but compared to Alam Shah is like comparing an RC plane with an A380.

I'm quite disappointed that we didn't do away Cambodia properly, cos we need to top the group in order to avoid Thailand (which I assume will top the other group). Of cos, I hope Singapore beat Myanmar and Indonesia, but if for some reason we draw against either of them, then goal difference will count right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

But from history, we will definitely beat Indonesia. Myanmar is the one to look out for. But come to think of it, I don't think it matters la. Sooner or later we will have to face Thailand anyway, so whether semi-final or final, doesn't matter. Omg I hope Suchao Nutnam plays! Really love his hair hahaz.

Newspaper today says Cambodia's Khim Borey (dunno who that is) wants to play in S-League. But he didn't even get one shot in, how to play in our league? At least if he scores against Sg, then maybe Sengkang might pick him up. Poor Cambodians la, they're so immobile and skill-less.

But then their country is so impoverished, and football will be the last thing on their minds. I think staying alive and healthy would be a more realistic target for them. Good job though for holding Singapore for 45 minutes.

I really worry and fear for the worst when Singapore meets the tougher teams. No Khairul Amri, no Fazrul Nawaz and no Qiu Li...plus the team looked so out of sorts today. I really fear for the worst. Oh by the way, no photos for today. I wish I'm at Jakarta today to support our team and take pictures, but I can't be there. Gomen nasai!

My Yes! Cards

I'm only happy when it rains! Remember the old Garbage song? What a downpour today. Sometimes I genuinely love it when it rains - when I'm at home under my blankets reading a good book, it gets really cozy. But today the rain came down at the wrong time. Just when I was about to leave home, the rain starts pouring down. Whoosh!

I went down to the mall to collect my SISTIC stuff and you know how when rains, every building gets choked full of people taking shelter? It was utter chaos. My hair was messy, and everyone was rushing in all sorts of different directions, its crazy.

When its your turn to wait for a cab, everyone else is also waiting. The taxi stand is so small, and everyone is squeezing in to the little shelter, it was a mess. And did I mention it was lunchtime?

Thank God I made it home safely. Time for a walk down memory lane! Remember in the early 90s there was this craze over HK and Taiwan singers? I mean the craze is still going on now, but back then it was phenomenal, with the 4 Heavenly Kings and whatnot.

Not sure how many of u remember these Yes! cards. They were selling for like 20 cents a piece and u slot the coin into a tikam machine and twist the knob and a card comes out. It was really cool.

I remember collecting a HUGE pile of these cards to take to school to show off. It was our equivelent of the baseball trading cards in the US. I still keep the card album rather neatly till this day. Take a look.

One of the 4 Small Heavenly Kings - Jimmy Lin. Very shuai guy back then, even better looking today.

Haha Aaron and his 90s hairstyle...the centre-parting curtain hair lol.

Andy Lau and his version of the hairstyle. The gold card on the right is actually worth more than the normal card to the left, cos its GOLD lol.

Leon Lai and Nicky Wu Qilong, superstars of the early 90s.

Beautiful Vivian Chow. One of the sweetest-looking lady you will ever meet.

The Peranakan Trail : Emerald Hill

They say the best things in life are free. How very true. $6 for an entry into the Peranakan Museum, but its free of charge to see the charming splendour of an authentic Peranakan town! This week our Peranakan Trail takes us to the old Peranakan district of Emerald Hill.

Although located right smack in the centre of Orchard Road, really very few people even know of its existance. Its easy to miss the entire district because one would need to be eagle-eyed in order to spot that narrow corridor in between Centrepoint and Orchard Emerald (now you know where the name comes from!). One can even work in Centrepoint for years and yet not notice the existance of Emerald Hill, I'm serious!

Centrepoint and Orchard Road was teeming with people when I reached there. Yet the entire Emerald Hill was practically empty. Nobody was there except a couple of foreign workers and a few ah peks walking around. Its like walking into Secret Garden lol.

You can check out Wikipedia for a brief history of Emerald Hill. Since the place is located in Orchard Road, naturally some people would take the opportunity to turn part of it into profits - in the form of pubs. But thankfully the pubs are only restricted to a couple of houses near the entrance way, and most of Emerald Hill are kept intact. And yes, the famous play by Stella Kon - Emily of Emerald Hill, is based here.

Of course, if you wish to see more (alot more!) photos of Emerald Hill, be sure to check out my Flickr Album.

Thai Pocky

Sawadee-ka! Pocky from Thailand! Eeww I bought this in Bangkok about 7 months back and I haven't even opened it. I bet its full of worms now. The other one is the Singapore version, which is probably infested with maggots cos I swear I hadn't touched that in almost a year. I had to wipe the dust off just to take the photo lol.

Made In Bulgaria

I just dugged up this little table which we had for so many years but hadn't really put to good use. Now its finally been put in place muahahaz. Its right beside my computer table so whenever I need a good read, I don't have to get up and go to the bookshelf. I can just reach out and grab a magazine or a book! Ingenious hor? I think I've just reach a new level of laziness.

You know what I love about IKEA products? Its that the things they have are not generically made in China or Japan, this table is made in friggin Bulgaria! You could literally have your entire living room made out of Eastern European furniture! Cool huh?

Imagine your coffee table made in Romania, your sofa made in Hungary and your TV cabinet made in Macedonia!
